Trashy to Classy {vol. 15}

Happy Monday!

I didn’t have time to get a post up this weekend because I was busy cheering on my Tigers in God’s Country, USA (aka Tiger Town aka Clemson, SC).

It was homecoming, so I got to see some amazing floats, some great friends and…. a terrible football game. But, hey, we won and a win’s a win in my book!

And speaking of #winning, today’s makeover is a little table that I picked up off the side of the road, which means it was my second favorite f word- FREE!

I can’t find any before photos of it but, trust me, it was not pretty. It had mud all over it. The top of the table and the shelf in the middle were particle board and water damaged- pretty nasty.

But the carved legs, and the beautiful flower-y detailing on the side of the table were just dyingggg to be brought back to life, so I tossed it in the back of the car and brought it home.

After a good power washing, and removing the particle board shelf and table top, you could definitely see the potential.

I intended to paint it red, but when trying to mix paints, I wound up with more a pink-ish/fuschia color that I didn’t love. So, I dry-brushed on some yellow.

While it was drying, I constructed a new top out of pallet type wood, and covered that with an old coffee sack. Then, I put it together for the big reveal.

And…. I hated it. I hated the pink. I hated the yellow. I hated how the bottom looked too feminine for the top.

Before I resolved to re-paint it, I gave it a thick coat of danish oil, to see if that would tone down the colors. After letting that dry for a while, i had a total change of heart. The danish oil gave the colors much more depth and age and made them looking funky and cool together (I think), instead pastel-y, like a giant easter egg. I think the darker colors made the bottom look more suited for the industrial looking top as well.

This piece got snatched up really quickly by a co-worker(my bosses boss, actually) who saw the ad on Craigslist and I guess recognized my watermark. I made sure to do a little bit of extra touch up before handing it over to someone who can fire me and all. 😉 (kidding!)

Here it is. Let me know what you think in the comments. (Unless you hate it, of course, in which case remember what your momma taught you about when you don’t have anything nice to say!)
