Pinspiration Party Project! {Old Door Bench}

If you read my overly pin-punny post last month, then you might remember that this summer I have teamed up with 2 other bloggers- Katie at Dates with Drywall and Ashley at The Vegetable Life– to host a summer “Pinspiration Party”. This party has one mission: LESS PINNING, MORE DOING! We were all supposed to take one “pin” that we have been inspired by and ACTUALLY DO IT… shocking concept, I know.

Hopefully you checked out Katie’s featured post about her pallet garden. And next month, Ashley will have her pinspired project complete, and I will give you a peek at it here on my blog.

Well July was my month to complete a pinspired project and after weeks of pincrastinating (does that work, no? ok) I finally have something to show for my hours upon hours of pinning!

I love old doors, and was totally inspired by all the ideas that I saw here (a really popular pin floating around Pinterest.) I have also been on the hunt for benches, both for my dining room and for the foot of my bed. (It is awkwardly tall, so you can’t sit on to do things like put on your shoes, pull on your pants, etc.)

Well, I got this bench for $10 from a local thrift store. It had great, solid wood legs, but the top was particle board and had some damage.

I had it for a few days before I really knew what I was going to do about the top.

But then, while searching Habitat for Humanity for some shutters, I stumbled across this cute little mini-door and I KNEW!! It was destined to be the top of my bench. It had a great color, great old hardware and this cute little size. (The picture shows how it compares to a normal height door, cute huh?!?)

First, I unscrewed the top of the bench.

Then, I primed and painted the legs white- Behr Cotton Fluff.

I attached the door using the same holes and screws that held on the original bench top and then, distressed the legs using my B&D Mouse Sander.

She is perfect for the end of our bed! 🙂 I am so happy with how it turned out! It was cheap ($10 bench + $10 door = $20 bench) and SUPER easy!!!

See Cleopatra all stretched out in her bed? She is one chillaxed dog!

What would you like to do with an old door?? Let me know your ideas!!

PS: I have lots of posts coming up that I am excited to share, so keep an eye out for those! 🙂

PSS: Our Pinterest party involved 3 bloggers- me, Katie and Ashley. Katie is one of my high school besties, and Ashley was her college roommate. But they went to college in Boston and I went to school in South Carolina… so I had never met Ashley- I only knew her through her blog. But at Katie’s engagement party last month blog world met real world! KAPOW! All 3 Pinterest party bloggers in one place:

So much fun!
